Prof Swaminathan, Patron and Emeritus Chair
He is the founder and chairman of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation and is deeply committed for the cause of sustainable food and nutrition security to all. He is known as the “Father of Indian Green Revolution” for his leadership in successfully introducing and developing the high-yielding varieties of wheat in India. He is the founder and patron of the Coalition of Food and Nutrition Security. The Coalition was formed under his able leadership following a large consultation on nutrition security held at the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation in Chennai in August 2007.
Mr. A R Nanda, Board Chair
He has served in the Indian Revenue Service during 1964-65, and in the Indian Administrative Service during 1965-2002. During 2002-2010, he was the executive director of Population Foundation of India. He was the Census Commissioner India during 1989-1994 and initiated the process of 1st National Family Health Survey in India. As a Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, he has played a key role in formulation and operationalisation of National Population Policy, 2000 and the roll out of National Family Health Survey-2. His commitment is to sustain systematic advocacy towards long term sustainable food and nutrition security with an inter-sectoral and life cycle approach.
Prof. Chandrakant S. Pandav, Vice Chair
He is a renowned professor in AIIMS, the President of the Association for Indian Coalition for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD). He represents ICCIDD in the Board.
ICCIDD Global Network is located in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. It has been recognized by the World Health Assembly as an Expert Consultative Group on Iodine Deficiency Disorders. ICCIDD is also engaged in national level advocacy for promoting sustainable elimination of IDD. His commitment is towards policy & program inputs and strengthening of networking with academic institutions. He is deeply motivated to take the nutrition agenda forward.
Ms. Sonali Patnaik, Secretary
Sonali is an anthropologist and MBA (HR). She is currently the Director of Arupa Mission Research Foundation. Sonali has been working in the Third Sector for 20 years now and is certified in Social Impact Assessments, Gender Budgeting and implementing the NFHS. Her experience spans across the civil society, multilateral and bilateral organisation, INGOs, research groups, consulting and business houses. Her commitment is in steering the vision and mission of the Coalition forward, adding value, innovation and effective leadership. She facilitates in shaping of the CSR Work Group (cutting across all other sectors that are determinants of food security and health such as WASH, Gender, ICTs, human resources, governance among others).
Dr. Meenakshi Jain, Treasurer
Dr. Meenakshi Jain is IntraHealth’s country representative in India. She is a health and development specialist with more than 15 years of experience in program design, management, and monitoring and evaluation. IntraHealth International has been working in India since the early 90’s in diverse technical areas, with footprints in eight states. IntraHealth works towards scaling up evidence based maternal, newborn and child health interventions in close collaboration with the government and partners to improve health outcomes. Her commitment is towards fulfilling the fiduciary responsibility of CFNS and help the Coalition realise the dream of sustainable food and nutrition security for all.

CARE has been working in India for over 65 years, focusing on alleviating poverty and social injustice, through well planned and comprehensive programmes in health, education, livelihoods and disaster preparedness and response. The organisation’s overall goal is the empowerment of women and girls from poor and marginalised communities leading to improvement in their lives and livelihoods.
CARE’s national and international experience in promoting nutrition outcomes will be beneficial for the Coalition. Mr Bahadur strong management experience of working with systems at a global and national level will also further help the Coalition and its agenda.
Public Health Foundation of India (Represented by Prof. K. Srinath Reddy, President)
The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is a public private initiative that has collaboratively evolved through consultations with multi constituencies including Indian and International academia, state and central governments, multi & bi-lateral agencies and civil society groups. PHFI is a response to redress the limited institutional capacity in India for strengthening training, research and policy development in the area of Public Health.
Prof. Reddy and PHFI will bring with them technical expertise, global citizenship as well as stronger collaborative networks to achieve the agenda of food and nutrition security of the Coalition for India.
Mr. Ashok Agarwal
He is a Trustee of the Indian Institute of Health Management & Research and John Hopkins University, USA. He is highly committed to take forward the agenda of Sustainable Food and Nutrition Security for all. He is committed to give his best to the organisation and work towards realisation of its vision and mission. His long drawn experience and expertise in the field is certainly a valuable asset for the organisation and its agenda. Mr. Bhaskar Barua
He is a member (Non Official)-Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Assam. His commitment is towards value based governance, transparency, inclusive approach to coalition building, advocacy for strategic convergence for sustainable food and nutrition security in India. He has a deep understanding and knowledge about the working of government systems. Ms. Harshita Pandey
She is the Chairperson, State Women Commission, Chhattisgarh. She is highly committed to incorporate Gender in food and nutrition agenda, support CFNS in sensitizing key Parliamentarians and politicians, support networking with National Commission for Women as well as SWC in many states. She is deeply motivated to bring the food and nutrition security agenda forward. She has valuable experience of working with the government and non-governmental development actors. Mr. K. R. Venugopal
He is a Former Secretary to the Prime Minister of India; and former Special Rapporteur, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India. His commitment is towards all issues pertaining to Food and Nutrition security, and all issues related to human rights enshrined in our constitution and the International Human Rights Covenants, Declarations and Conventions. His unparalleled experience and knowledge are highly valuable for the organisation and its agenda. Mr. Nilamadhab Prusty
He is the Honorary President of Humanitarian AID International and Honorary Director, Centre for Development & Disaster Management Support Services. He is the Former Secretary to the Government of India and Member, Central Administrative Tribunal. He has 40 years of experience in the social sector at national, state, and district levels.
