Basanta Kumar Kar, Chief Executive Officer

Mr Basanta Kumar Kar is an international development professional having excellent leadership and management skills and broad experience of managing large country and regional programs in South and South East Asia. He possesses a persistent track record of demonstrating impact at scale and influencing a wide range of policies. He also provided management and technical  oversight to large scale social business ventures and high value international trades.  Previously, he held leadership positions in credible organisations like NDDB Oil Project, ActionAid, CARE and GAIN. He holds a management degree from IRMA  and degree in Law and English Literature. Author of three collections of poems in English, Basanta is a recipient of prestigious Global ‘Transform Nutrition Champion’ and ‘Odisha Living Legend Award’.

Batsal Malla, Director – Finance, Admin & Resource Mobilization

Batsal is providing leadership and management oversight to Coalition’s finance, administration and resource mobilization portfolio. Previously, Batsal held leadership positions in credible organisations like NDDB Oil Project, IFAD, World Bank-assisted Food & Drugs Capacity Building Project with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. He also served as a visiting faculty at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. Batsal holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Management from IRMA and completed Cost Accountant (Inter) from ICWAI.

Sharmistha Chakraborty, Manager – Membership Engagement, Knowledge Management & Communication

With a master’s degree in Journalism & Mass Communication, Sharmistha comes from an audio-visual media background who eventually moved into the development sector to bring lasting changes in the lives of the poor and marginalised in particular that of women and children especially those who are deprived of choices and compelled to live in difficult circumstances. She has more than nine years of progressively increasing responsibility and experience in programme management and implementation and has worked in diverse geographic settings – North East and Delhi. Her multi-faced experience has enabled her to develop skills and competencies to become Multifunctional with Good Communication, Negotiation, Leadership and Presentation skills.

Manali Jain Khurana, Senior Program Assistant (FA&RM)

With a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Finance), Manali, is a seasoned programme management professional with over eleven years of hallmark career manifested by illustrious experience with government institutions and development organisations in the career ladder in Finance and Administration and Grant Management. She is a Committed and motivated team partner with good relationship-building and decision making skills. She is energetic, with a strong work ethic, professional demeanour, great initiative to establish strong administrative and financial departments in the organisation.

Anam Hilaly, Consultant

With a background in Electrical Engineering, Anam has been involved in the development sector for the last three years. Her primary area of interest lies with the issues of the girl child and the securing of their future. As cliche as it is, her interests lie in devouring books, strumming the guitar in dimly lit rooms, and a little bit of photography every now and then.




Neeru Kumari, Knowledge Management & Communication Intern

Neeru Kumari is pursuing her B.Sc hons in Food Technology (1st year) from Delhi University. During her 2 month internship with the Coalition, she would be working on knowledge management area and would be managing Coalition’s social networking sites. Apart from studies, she has a great interest in chess playing and participates in many competitions.


Ashish Singh, Knowledge Management & Communication Intern

Ashish is an economics undergraduate student at Amity School of Economics. Ashish has worked previously in the field of Digital technology focusing on using digital strategy to drive growth, and through experience in varied areas Ashish aims to make himself capable of devising sustainable solutions to complex multi-dimensional problems. Ashish is a strong supporter of the art of sustainability and believes that “We should walk into our future, not wake up to it”. Apart from studies, he likes to play soccer, badminton, read (sometimes) and sing (almost always alone).

Arjun Dhamanda, Knowledge Management & Communication Intern

Arjun is currently pursuing economics honors degree at Amity School of Economics. He is a strong believer of sustainable development. Through his internship with the Coalition he expects to gain exposure into the advocacy field while doing something substantial for the society. Arjun has previously volunteered in a ‘Street to school’ program, worked as a part of WASH program in Jammu city. He is a nature lover and enjoys doing mixed marital arts, cycling, hiking and cooking(to some extent).


Rijul Gaur, Knowledge Management & Communication Intern

Rijul is a second year student of Amity University, pursing economic honors. He has a dynamic personality adapting and evolving after every obstacle in life. He is keen on learning from the Coalition and gaining exposure from it. He believes that this country is well equipped with laws but it lacks efficient enforcement and that’s where the advocacy plays a role. He has experience of attending conferences on various topics like sustainable development, innovative thinking and Australia Immersion Program. His other area of interests include composing random rhythms on guitar, playing football and travelling, especially to hill stations.

Varnika Agarwal, Knowledge management & Communication Intern

Varnika is pursuing B.A(hons.) in social work from Delhi university. she has a work experience with St. Stephen Community Health Department and Childline India Foundation. At CFNS, she would be working on the coordinating and executing the organisation’s knowledge management products. This role will be instrumental in designing and launching the online knowledge portal of the organisation.


Anand Mishra,  Knowledge Management & Communication Intern

Anand Mishra is persuading his B.A (hons) in Social work from Delhi University. He has a work experience in Field Executive, Surul Suprity Society, Surul, Sriniketan, Birbhum, West Bengal and Field Worker  in ‘ANHAD, works for Harmony and Democracy’, NGO, Delhi . At CFNS, he is responsible for coordinating and executing the organisation’s knowledge management products. This role will be instrumental in designing and launching the online knowledge portal of the organisation.
