CFNS partnered with National Institute for Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, to conduct an insightful webinar on ‘DRR for Business Continuity Towards Zero Hunger’. It was attended by nearly 50 participants including our partners UNICEF India and CIFF and other Coalition members. The webinar threw up some interesting discussion points on continuity of nutrition services in times of disasters. Malnutrition has emerged as a silent emergency over the last two decades. The agenda of community management of malnutrition with collective and concentrated focused action of existing government programs in coherence with the traditional wisdom and local food production and consumption practice provide a sustainable solution to ensuring nutrition security to the nation. Prof. Anil K Gupta, Head ECDRM, NIDM, drew attention to the challenges of food safety, especially during the time of emergency and disaster, and the need for building resilience through capacity building exercises to deal with future challenges. He applauded the Coalition’s commitment towards addressing food and nutrition security and expressed interest for a future collaboration with CFNS to work on policy papers on the interconnectedness between disaster and malnutrition.
