Malnutrition Free India: Experts Share Dialogue in Maharashtra on Nutrition Security

Several experts on nutrition, decision makers, development organizations, donors, and media assembled at a consultation organized by Action Against Hunger-India/Fight Hunger Foundation to discuss various aspects of nutrition security in India. Participants shared diversified insights on different experiences for learning around acute malnutrition, community based management of acute malnutrition programme, nutrition security, and latest statistics and information on malnutrition. The programme was intended towards creating synergies across stakeholders for coherent and coordinated actions on nutrition security. The consultation also focused on arriving at a consensus and concurrence on a dichotomy related to nutrition security and management of malnutrition. It also focused on building an enabling environment for regular dialogue, policy strengthening and resource mobilization to address the scale of the problem. Among many dignitaries,

Along with Mr. Ashwini Kakkar, Chairman – Fight Hunger Foundation, Ms. Vinita Ved Singhal, Principal Secretary, WCD and Director General, Rajmata Jijau Child Health and Nutrition Mission Maharashtra and Mr. Basanta Kumar Kar, Chief Executive Officer(CEO), The Coalition for Food & Nutrition Security was also invited as a speaker to the consultation. Mr Kar spoke about sustainable food and nutrition security not only in terms of consumption of safe and nutritious food but also associated linkages with climate change, WASH, nutrition sensitive agriculture and markets. He shared about Hon’ble Prime Minister’s commitment to bring a positive change in the nutrition sector and India’s WILL TO DELIVER AND TRANSFORM.
